The new plan will be a twenty year vision for developing an integrated transport network that supports the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership’s Strategic Economic Plan for sustained and healthy economic growth - especially for jobs and housing. Within this, we are also working on a Bus Strategy which will set out what we want the bus system to achieve from 2016-2036. From Monday 18 July – Friday 21 October 2016 we ran a full public and stakeholder consultation on the content of the Transport Strategy and the Bus Strategy. All 5,000 responses to the consultation have now been independently analysed by AECOM and the conclusions, as well as the next steps, were considered by WYCA Transport Committee at its meeting on 24 February 2017.
A copy of the reports regarding the strategies and the next steps following the consultation can be found here:
As part of the consultation process, many of those who took part shared details of current and ongoing issues experienced with the bus system. All the operational comments about the “here and now” have been shared with the bus operators for their consideration. Due to the high number of responses and broad range of issues raised we are not in a position to individually address and respond to each. As a result of feedback received through the Bus Strategy consultation, we are undertaking an additional public consultation around an accessible bus system. Feedback has already demonstrated that this was particularly important to all, but especially for users with short and long term disabilities. To reflect this, we are proposing to add an additional policy to the Bus Strategy regarding improving accessibility for all. We welcome your comments and feedback on the content of this additional policy. An overview of our proposed Accessibility Policy can be found here:
The consultation is open until Monday 1 May. During this time, teams from WYCA will be returning to interest groups, including disability advocacy groups, for comment. If you are a member of a group, or know of one that might be interested in providing feedback, please share the details of this consultation. You can respond to this consultation by completing our online survey (link below):
Following our consultation on the content of the Bus Strategy Accessibility Policy Proposal, the updated versions of the Bus Strategy and the Transport Strategy will be presented to the WYCA Transport Committee and the West Yorkshire Combined Authority in summer 2017. We will continue to keep people informed about developments regarding the West Yorkshire bus system.
