Would you like the chance to be part of an exclusive Royal Armouries exhibition?

A creative art competition for young people aged 25 and under has been launched, helping to promote community safety and address serious violence.

The top three entries will be chosen to appear in a new display, set to open in January 2022, focusing on the positive work of the West Yorkshire Violence Reduction Unit (VRU) and Operation Jemlock Team.

The overall winner will receive a £100 voucher and a gift hamper from the museum shop. Second and third place will receive a £50 voucher each.

The deadline for submissions is 30th November 2021.

Director of the West Yorkshire Violence Reduction Unit (VRU), Chief Superintendent Jackie Marsh said:

“We are currently working in partnership with the Royal Armouries in Leeds to develop and produce a portable exhibition that raises awareness of the issues surrounding serious violent crime and positively influences young people within our communities.

“It will highlight the preventative work taking place through the many programmes, projects and interventions, as well as the enforcement approaches of Operation Jemlock.

“It is crucial that our young people have the platform to play an active part in helping to change behaviours and shape the future approach on a local level.

“This is why we are calling on them to get creative through various mediums, to achieve the fantastic opportunity of being part of a public exhibition.

“We are specifically looking to capture people’s thoughts, feelings, or views on violence, promoting personal safety and local experiences.”

Anna Ward, Interpretation Manager, Royal Armouries added:

“Working in collaboration with local communities is an essential element of our partnership with West Yorkshire Violent Reduction Unit.

“We’re looking forward to seeing the entries from the art competition and featuring them as part of your new gallery display at the Royal Armouries.”
