“This is another stark reminder about climate change"

Responding to the news that Yorkshire Water has announced a hosepipe ban and reports that Yorkshire will be placed under a drought order, Mayor of West Yorkshire, Tracy Brabin, said:

“This is another stark reminder about climate change, but I know that our communities will do the right thing and help conserve water.

“I’ve received assurances from Yorkshire Water that this is a precautionary measure and they are working around the clock to address these issues - I will hold them to account on that.

“If a drought is declared in Yorkshire, like other parts of the country, this will send a clear message that they must do better to ensure their infrastructure it is fit-for-purpose, so our communities are not suffering disproportionally.”
