West Yorkshire Mayor, Tracy Brabin in discussions with the Transport Secretary Grant Shapps to seek reassurance on Northern Powerhouse Rail (NPR)

21 June 2021

Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire, said: “I have just spoken to the Transport Secretary Grant Shapps to seek reassurance on Northern Powerhouse Rail (NPR) plans and the uncertainty around a new station and line via Bradford.

“I was clear that in order for the city of Bradford to reach its full potential, we must have a NPR plan that delivers the transformational benefits promised by the Prime Minister, which serves the needs of the vibrant community and people that live there.

The Transport Secretary refuted recent reports about the Government scaling back NPR in Bradford. He reaffirmed his commitment to the city, acknowledging the need for Bradford’s young people in particular to be better connected to infrastructure and greater opportunities.

“We now look forward to the publication of the Integrated Rail Plan, which will have more detail about NPR and the promised new line between Manchester, central Bradford and Leeds.”
