Can you tell me about your career background, progression and how you feel that has prepared you for the job you currently do?  

I have worked in public service delivery in policy, PMO and delivery roles. From EU education funding schemes and lobbying on behalf of local and regional government; private sector employment and skills contract delivery through to local government regeneration and business growth, each of these roles helped me secure this role. 

What does your job involve and what do you enjoy about it?  

My job involves helping schemes to secure investment from the Combined Authority. From the initial idea of a scheme through to a successfully approved business case and delivery, I help advise and guide colleagues’ schemes through the process, ensuring the right schemes, delivering value for money gain timely approval for the benefit of the Leeds City Region.

How do you find working alongside your team and the wider directorate? 

Our team is an energetic team made up of colleagues from a range of backgrounds and experiences. We work well together on the varied workload. It’s helpful and interesting to work alongside colleagues in the wider Directorate – not only Delivery but also the other Directorates in the organisation and our partners – it means we can easily have those early conversations which are key to ensuring a smooth journey of a scheme through our decision making process. 

What training / learning opportunities have you taken part in whilst at the Combined Authority? 

The variety and range of schemes coming through the Combined Authority - from business investment to transport and flood infrastructure to housing and regeneration – and the expert colleagues I work with means I am continually learning on the job. I have also benefited from the opportunity to attend a range of bite size learning sessions e.g. on procurement and accessible design.  

What do you like most about working for the Combined Authority? 

The regional perspective; working to help benefit the region; being part of devolution; the variety of schemes and my colleagues. 

Imagine you could go back in time to when you first started in your current role – what tips/advice would you give yourself? 

Be patient; you won’t know absolutely everything at any one time - you’ll always be working with trusted colleagues and together you can find solutions and make progress!
