We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with excellent communications skills who can help raise the profile of the Combined Authority and its work.

The Role

This is a varied role which will suit a flexible individual, proficient at managing multiple projects and working with a range of partners. 

Reporting to the Head of External Affairs, key requirements for the Communications and Marketing Officer will be:

  • Fast-paced press office or media experience. including strong writing skills and relationship building
  • Experience of developing structured and carefully targeted communications plans securing media coverage to support corporate goals
  • Understanding of successful strategies around earned and owned content
  • Ability and confidence to advise senior figures directly both within and outside the organisation
  • Capable of working flexibly and collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary communications and marketing team. 
  • Experience of working successfully in a partnership environment

About you

With an understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing the organisation and the region, the holder of this post will work with colleagues to raise the status and profile of the Combined Authority within West Yorkshire and beyond.  You will work to not only generate positive media coverage, nationally and regionally, but be experienced at inspiring debate, and content powerful enough to help shape national policy decisions that influence our region’s way of life.

The successful candidate will be a confident media relations professional, adept at creating compelling opportunities for local, regional and national media and building relationships with key journalists, as well as reacting quickly to emerging issues and identifying opportunities for our spokespeople to contribute to the national conversation.

This is an exciting time to be joining the Combined Authority following the agreement of a devolution deal for West Yorkshire in March 2020 which will see more than £1.8 billion of funding and decision-making powers brought into local control and the election of a West Yorkshire Mayor in May 2021.
