Good Growth

The central principle of ‘good growth’ runs all the way through our strategy for West Yorkshire and is the thread that brings together our four priorities.

The central principle of ‘good growth’ runs all the way through our strategy for West Yorkshire and is the thread that brings together our four priorities.

The idea of good growth underpins everything we do and will be used as the principle against which we will test and measure success.

Good growth means:

  • Achieving both the right quantity and the right quality of growth
  • Creating a strong, productive and resilient economy, where higher business competitiveness, productivity and profits go hand in hand with access to good jobs
  • All residents having access to opportunity and enjoy improved quality of life

Good growth

Achieving our aim of good growth will mean that people are better off, the local economy is transformed and boosted, the environment is improved and government is able to spend less on welfare.

Innovation and digital technology will be key to success. More of our firms and public institutions will quickly exploit new ideas, opportunities and technologies to find solutions and achieve growth, efficiency and productivity.

Similarly, the character, ideas, abilities and ambitions of our people will be central to a culture that builds on the City Region’s traditions and which is inventive, outward looking, collaborative, open to new ideas and laced with grit and determination.

Our diverse economy, made up of major cities, towns and countryside, gives us the distinctive assets and opportunities we need to do this.
