West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA) has been shortlisted three times in this years National Transport Awards organised by Transport Times Magazine.

WYCAs work on last years Tour de France Grand Dpart has been recognised in the Transport Team/Partnership and Travel Information & Marketing categories and the development and promotion of the Payzone retail network for MCard is also a finalist for the Travel Information & Marketing award.

Tour de France

WYCAs Tour de France entry for the Transport Team/Partnership award concentrated on our work with TdFHub2014 Ltd, other Local Transport and Highway Authorities, Government Agencies and Statutory Bodies such as the Highways Agency and Network Rail, bus and train operators and other partners to avert transport misery for the events three million-plus spectators. The Travel Information & Marketing entry for the Grand Dpart focused on the well-planned, multi-channel Travel Demand Management campaign.

Interactive map

At the campaigns heart was an interactive map that allowed people to carry out multi-modal journey planning and be aware of road closures, parking, spectator viewing areas and hubs. The entry also describes the travel advice delivered via digital screens at bus stops and rail stations, variable message signs, websites and social media.

Both entries cite the post-event research which showed that over 90% of spectators to the Yorkshire stages were aware of the travel advice issued and while based on similar previous events 75% of spectators had been expected to travel by private car, thanks to the combined efforts of the partners only 28% did so, less than half of that originally forecast.

MCard success

MCard selectionThe Travel Information & Marketing entry for MCard Smartcard Retail Expansion describes the successful campaign to raise public awareness of new MCard smartcards and the transfer of sales from Post Offices to Payzone stores.

The entry describes a hat-trick success of launching of new technology, new products and a new retail network through excellent media coverage, social media, leaflets, posters, timetable adverts and e-newsletters.

West Yorkshire Combined Authoritys Transport Committee Chair Cllr Keith Wakefield said Im pleased to see the West Yorkshires Combined Authoritys work on these transport projects has been recognised by being shortlisted three times at this years National Transport Awards. Victory for the Combined Authority would be well deserved recognition for the hard working teams and our partners who delivered the shortlisted projects.
