Combined Authority�s �32 million programme of station car park extensions rolls on

A report to this week's�Wakefield District Consultation Sub-Committee updates members on the Combined Authority�s �31.5 million programme of station car park extensions.

The report says that 150 new park and ride spaces have been created at two West Yorkshire rail stations as part of Completed in March, Fitzwilliam station has 100 new, free car park and ride spaces available and since last summer, there have been an additional 50 spaces for rail users at South Elmsall station.

Six new schemes�

Work to create 24 new car park spaces built at Mirfield station, bringing the total to 56 including�three Blue Badge spaces, is due to start in the coming weeks, says the report. Six new schemes at Hebden Bridge, Mytholmroyd, Normanton, Shipley, Steeton & Silsden and a second site at Mirfield are scheduled to start over the next 12 to 18 subject to approvals.

Feasibility work is being carried out on further schemes at Apperley Bridge, Ben Rhydding, Guiseley, Moorthorpe and Outwood stations.

The additional places created at South Elmsall and Fitzwiliam have brought the total number of park and ride spaces at the county�s stations to more than 5,000. By making it easier to use public transport in this way, the Combined Authority aims to helping to connect local people to jobs and leisure as well as reducing congestion and air pollution in major city areas.

Accelerating growth

Investment for the Station Car Park Extensions programme, is through the Combined Authority�s West Yorkshire-plus Transport Fund, and the Leeds City Region Growth Deal - a �1 billion package of Government investment through the West Yorkshire Combined Authority and Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership (LEP) to accelerate growth and create jobs across Leeds City Region.
