Five hundred motorists to get a months free West Yorkshire bus & train travel
Motorists in West Yorkshire whose employers are members of the West Yorkshire Travel Plan Network will be in with a chance to leave their cars at home and travel free on local buses and trains throughout December as part of West Yorkshire Combined Authoritys annual 'Dont Drive December' campaign.
Thanks to a successful funding bid to the Department for Transports Local Sustainable Transport Fund, which aims to help build strong local economies and address the urgent challenges of climate change, a total of 500 lucky motorists will be selected to receive a free MCard, giving virtually unlimited travel across West Yorkshire for a whole month and when theyre not using it, their family members can!
Eligibility
To be eligible to be considered you must be a motorist employed by a member of the West Yorkshire Travel Plan Network, so ask your employer if theyre in the scheme and if theyre not ask them to join - its completely free.
West Yorkshire Travel Plan Network
West Yorkshire Combined Authority in partnership with its Local Authorities operates the West Yorkshire Travel Plan Network which is free to join for any employer in West Yorkshire committed to encouraging their staff to travel to work more sustainably by promoting the use of public transport, walking, cycling, responsible car use, and smarter working to their employees.
Over 200 organisations from all sizes and sectors, including health trusts, councils and private businesses are already members of the network which brings a range of exclusive benefits including a 75% discount on business travel and a 15% discount on annual travel passes for their employees.
Reducing congestion is priority
Getting more people onto public transport and reducing the number of vehicles on our roads particularly during busy commuter times will help to reduce congestion which is a key priority for the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, said Cllr Eric Firth, Deputy Chair of West Yorkshire Combined Authority Transport Committee.Once these 500 motorists and their families have experienced the benefits of public transport for a month many may then decide to invest in an MCard at the reduced rate available to members of the West Yorkshire Travel Plan Network.
