Funding submitted for CityConnect Cycle Superhighway
A funding application has been submitted to the Government, with a potential for a �22.1m boost to the region's cycle improvememts
WYCA, in partnership with the five West Yorkshire district councils and York, has submitted a funding application to the Department for Transport, which could result in a boost of up to �30.2 million for cycle schemes in the Leeds City Region, with �22.1m coming from central government.
This follows the Government announcement, in November 2014, that further funding could be made available.
Initial funding success
The Government created the first round of Cycle City Ambition Grant funding in 2013, which West Yorkshire was successful in securing, and has led to the beginning of construction on the CityConnect Cycle Superhighway in Leeds and Bradford, alongside complementary work packages.
Cycle infrastructure improving links to city centres
Our application will allow us to deliver a transformational package of cycle infrastructure, providing fully segregated cycle links in the centres of Leeds, Wakefield, Bradford, Huddersfield and York, connecting to key employment and regeneration sites.
As part of this, we will also be upgrading the Upper Calder Valley, Airedale Greenway, Huddersfield to Golcar and Castleford to Wakefield towpaths to improve our off highway segregated routes into our key centres. These initiatives will be complemented by a comprehensive behavioural change programme and improvements to neighbourhoods to make local streets safe and attractive for walking and cycling.
