Have Your Say on South Elmsall Bus Station plans

People in South Elmsall are being consulted on proposals to renew the town�s bus station.

West Yorkshire Combined Authority and Wakefield Council have drawn up plans for the Bus Station and now want to get feedback from bus users and local people.

As part of the bus station renewal, new shelters fitted with yournextbus real-time display screens, safety measures including new pedestrian barriers and improvements to the pedestrian crossing arrangements will be provided. It will also feature a new Transport Hub Totem incorporating a digital clock and integral information panels.

At the rail station, footway improvements and a more suitable pedestrian landing area at the bottom of the steps, leading from the B6474 High Street railway bridge down to the Station Road approach to South Elmsall Railway Station, will be implemented.

The scheme will also provide improved wayfinding signage between the bus station, rail station and town centre.

There will also be �drop in� events at which people will be able to examine scheme plans, talk to the team working on the scheme and provide feedback through a questionnaire. They will take place at:

� The Grove Hall, The Grove, Stockingate, South Kirkby, Pontefract WF9 3QF on Monday 30 November from 10am-12noon and 4pm � 6pm

� Westfield Centre, Westfield Lane, South Elmsall, Pontefract, West Yorkshire WF9 2PU on Wednesday 2 December 2015 from 10am-12noon and 4pm � 6pm.

WYCA Chair and Wakefield Council Leader Cllr Peter Box said:

�We are keen to hear people�s views either right now through the website or at the exhibitions when WYCA and Wakefield Council staff will be on hand to answer any questions that people may have about these proposals, which represent a welcome investment in public transport for South Elmsall.�

�Transport underpins the economy and local business and the Combined Authority is committed to ensuring its public transport facilities provide passengers with a comfortable, attractive and safe environment.

�I would urge people who use public transport in South Elmsall to go along to the drop in events and take part in the consultation about the future of transport in their town.�

The �320,000 scheme will be developed in further detail after the public consultation has taken place, with work on the scheme forecast to be completed in summer 2016.
