Cycle SuperhighwayLocal businesses are being encouraged to sign up to a cycling competition next month to help their employees save money and get more active.

Firms from across West Yorkshire can now register as a team for Cycle September, run by CityConnect at the West Yorkshire Combined Authority and national cycling campaign, Love to Ride.

Once registered for Cycle September as a team (new tab)
, employees can sign up as individuals in the company and start totting up the miles in competition with others across the region. Prizes, including free holidays, bikes, vouchers and cycling equipment, are available for participants to help them boost their own peddling power and cycling motivation in the months to come.

Further prizes are also on offer for companies who register, including vouchers to spend on helping their staff continue to ride.

The call out for sign ups comes just weeks after CityConnect revealed that almost 2,000 people across the region had cycled a combined one million miles since 2016.

Freedom

CyclistsCouncillor Keith Wakefield, West Yorkshire Combined Authority Transport Chair, said:
Partnering with Love to Ride on another cycle competition is fantastic news. Its a fun and inclusive initiative that I would like to encourage everyone to get involved with. Taking part in Cycle September is more than winning prizes it will help you to realise the health benefits of active travel, help you to save on commuting costs and give you a new sense of freedom. I hope many businesses across West Yorkshire will get involved and encourage their employees to take part, so that soon we can reach the two million miles benchmark in West Yorkshire.

Dom Jacques, Love to Ride challenge manager for West Yorkshire, said:Whether you ride a bike every day or havent been on a bike in years, join Cycle September to raise the profile of cycling and help your friends, family and colleagues discover the joys and benefits of riding a bike. If there are more cyclists out and about, it makes drivers more aware of them, it makes the roads safer and less congested for everyone, and people thinking about riding a bike say,Well, if they can do it, so can I.

This August,50 bike vouchers are also available for individuals who spread the word about cycling and encourage a friend or colleague to register for Cycle September.
