Last chance to comment on planned Stourton Park and Ride

The online survey, which people can use to comment on the planned Stourton Park and Ride closes at midnight on Friday 27 October.

Located in Stourton, next to Junction 7 of the M621, the new park and ride will provide a high-quality transport link from along the A61 Low Road/Hunslet Road, past the city's education quarter, through the Leeds South Bank and into the city centre.

Drop-in events

Drop in events, where�West Yorkshire Combined Authority and Leeds City Council representatives have been on hand to�to answer questions about the Park and Ride scheme and plans to improve the A639 Low Road / A61(south) Hunslet Road�have been held in Leeds city centre,at West Grange Church on Belle Isle Rd, at�Hunslet Nazarene Church, and at Rothwell's Windmill Youth and Community Centre.

Improvements to the A639 Low Road/A61 (south) Hunslet Road are planned in connection with new park & ride site and will include a new, dedicated bus lane and and fully segregated cycle track between the Thwaite Gate and the city centre, and improvements junctions along the route. The overall impact of the scheme will be to improved journey times, better pedestrian and cycling environments and reduced congestion.

Such an important project

In September, when people were first invited to have their say, West Yorkshire Combined Authority Transport Committee Chair Cllr Keith Wakefield said: �It is really important that local transport users and potential users get an opportunity to have their say on the development of such a vital project.

�We want a park and ride facility that works for local people and helps to enhance Leeds city centre through reduced traffic congestion and improved air quality.�

Park & Ride is an important element of the Transport Strategy for Leeds, with the Elland Road and Temple Green facilities removing around 6,000 cars from city centre roads each week.

Rail stations

There are also around 3,000 park and ride spaces at West Yorkshire�s 69 rail stations, with more currently being created through extension schemes at 17 of them, funded by the Combined Authority�s �1bn West Yorkshire Plus Transport Fund.

Catering for trips from the south-east of the city, Stourton Park and Ride will complement the Elland Road and Temple Green sites. Access will be via Junction 7 of M621, A61S and A639 and the bus service will also serve Leeds South Bank where regeneration will provide more than 35,000 new jobs and 4,000 new homes. The �23m park and ride scheme is scheduled to open in winter 2019 and is being delivered as part of the �175.5m funding approval granted by the Department for Transport (DfT).
