Less than two weeks to submit views on Combined Authority�s 20-year transport vision

Over 500 people have now contributed their views on the first stage of engagement for the West Yorkshire Combined Authority's (WYCA) Single Transport Plan (STP) for West Yorkshire.

The Combined Authority invited individuals and organisations to contribute to shaping the new Plan, which will be a 20-year vision for developing an effective, efficient and integrated transport network for the Leeds City Region that supports sustainable and low-carbon economic growth.

This initial engagement on the Single Transport Plan will be followed by a more formal round of consultation in summer 2015.

At the start of the engagement process WYCA Chair and Wakefield Council Leader Cllr Peter Box said:

�The Combined Authority�s ambition is to underpin economic growth and housing development across the City Region by investing �1 billion in projects to develop a quick, convenient and clean, integrated transport network.

�The Single Transport Plan also supports the delivery of the Leeds City Region Strategic Economic Plan (SEP), so it is important that at each stage we take on board the views of individuals and organisations to ensure we are developing a Plan that matches their needs and expectations.�

At the same time LEP Chair and Deputy Chair of WYCA Investment Committee Roger Marsh said:

�An effective local transport network that connects people to jobs and goods to markets, seamlessly, and helps us maximise the opportunities of the government�s major investment in high-speed rail, is fundamental to our plan for extraordinary growth in Leeds City Region.

�I would urge businesses in the region to have their say on the transport connectivity they need both now and in the future to support their continued success and growth.�

And WYCA Transport Committee Chair Cllr James Lewis said:

�We need to invest in the Leeds City Region�s transport infrastructure and services to provide the reliable, integrated network that businesses and people expect and require. This will make the City Region a more attractive place in which to invest, work and live and employing low-carbon technologies will mean we can achieve this sustainably.�
