Low Emission Bus Workshop
Low emission bus technology, including Leeds bus builder Optare�s new Metrodecker EV, will be on display at the region�s Low Emission Bus Workshop on Tuesday 11 July.
West Yorkshire Combined Authority has teamed up with the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership to organise the Region�s second event of 2017 at Leeds University Business School.
Latest technologies
Delegates from small-scale bus operators and local authorities will be able to find out about the latest technologies and fuels available to them. Representatives operating bus fleets around the UK will be on hand to share their operational experience of low carbon and low emission technologies, including retrofit Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) schemes.
And, there will also be the opportunity to meet Low Emission Bus manufacturers, fuel suppliers, retrofit electric and hybrid powertrain providers and exhaust after-treatment suppliers. These include Sherburn in Elmet-based bus manufacturer Optare lightweight, fully electric Metrodecker has a passenger capacity of up to 96 and is the perfect choice for reducing emissions and improving air quality.
Cleaner vehicles
Councillor Keith Wakefield, Chair of West Yorkshire Combined Authority�s Transport Committee who will be introducing the event said:��Lowering emissions in our towns and cities is essential and the bus industry has a key role to play in that process both by attracting more passengers, which reduces the number of vehicles on the road and though the deployment of cleaner vehicles.
�Through the Bus 18 initiative, West Yorkshire�s major bus operators have committed to the ECOStars scheme which provides recognition, guidance and advice on operational best practice and helps organisations reduce fuel consumption and harmful emissions in their vehicle fleets.
�Next week�s event at Leeds Business School will be an opportunity for smaller bus companies to find out about the latest technologies that can help them hit their emissions targets.�
Air quality is top of the agenda for most operators and the event will cover the national and local policy measures and initiatives being proposed across West Yorkshire�s five districts of Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds and Wakefield. It will also provide delegates with an understanding of what will be expected from Clean Air Zones.
Insight
There will be presentations from Arriva, Transdev Blazefield and First Group covering electric, hybrid and SCR retrofit technology on performance in the field to give delegates an insight into real world operational experiences.
The event will also look at the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership�s work with industry and the DfT�s Joint Air Quality Unit (JAQU) to design an accreditation scheme for retrofit technologies to be used on buses as well as coaches, taxis, vans and heavy-duty trucks. This Clean Vehicle Retrofit Accreditation Scheme will be used by JAQU to distribute funding to support operators and local authorities meet emissions standards required for Clean Air Zones.
