Mirfield station car park extension work underway
Mirfield station car park extension work underway
Work to create 24 new car park spaces at Mirfield rail station and improve peoples access to the rail network is underway.
When completed, the scheme will bring the total number of park and ride spaces at the station to 56, including three Blue Badge spaces.
Passengers access to the station and existing car park will not be affected during the work.
Cllr Eric Firth who is Deputy Chair of the West Yorkshire Combined Authority Transport Committee said:This work at Mirfield is the latest scheme in the Combined Authoritys 31.5 million programme of station car park extensions that have been designed to help connect local people to jobs and leisure as well as reducing congestion and air pollution in major city areas.
We have already created 150 new, free park and ride spaces at South Elmsall and Fitzwilliam rail stations which are being well used.
Our car park extensions at South Elmsall and Fitzwilliam have taken the total number of park and ride spaces at the West Yorkshires stations beyond the 5,000 mark and further schemes at Hebden Bridge, Mytholmroyd, Normanton, Shipley and Steeton & Silsden, could start over the next 12 to 18 months.
Investment for the Station Car Park Extensions programme is through the Combined Authoritys West Yorkshire-plus Transport Fund, and the Leeds City Region Growth Deal - a 1 billion package of Government investment through the West Yorkshire Combined Authority and Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership (LEP) to accelerate growth and create jobs across Leeds City Region.
Feasibility work is being carried out on further schemes at Apperley Bridge, Ben Rhydding, Guiseley, Moorthorpe and Outwood stations as part of the programme.
