People invited to have their say on Bradford-Shipley transport improvements

People are being invited to give their views on plans to improve journeys along the routes between Bradford city centre and Shipley.
Bradford Council and West Yorkshire Combined Authority's planned Bradford Shipley Route improvement Scheme will improve the A650 as public transport corridor and develop Canal Road and Valley Road as the main strategic route for other traffic.
Funded through the West Yorkshire-plus Transport Fund, the scheme will relieve existing congestion. This will help improve journey times and the reliability of bus services and provide better links to employment opportunities for people living in communities along the route. New infrastructure will also mean more walking and cycling facilities and improved road safety as well as a reduction in local air pollution.
New jobs
The scheme will open up land for the construction of new homes and employment space which will, in turn, encourage the creation of new jobs. It also complements the Bradford Canal Road Cycling Scheme, a new, segregated 2.3km cycle route running from the city centre along the Canal Road/Valley Road corridor.
People will be able to see details of the proposed scheme online through the Your Voice Combined Authority engagement hub, from Friday (14 December) until Friday 8 February and in person at four drop-in sessions.

These drop-in sessions, which are a chance to meet the project team and ask questions will take place from:
- 10am to 2pm at City Hall Foyer on Monday 21 January;
- 10am to 2pm at Bradford Interchange Foyer on Thursday 24 January;
- 3pm to 7pm at the Tesco Superstore, Peel Centre, Valley Road on Monday 28 January;
- 10am to 2pm at Shipley Library on Saturday 2 February.
There will also be unstaffed displays at Bradford City Hall Foyer, the Peel Centre Tesco Superstore and Shipley Library between Friday 14 December and Friday 8 February.

Key gateway
Cllr Alex Ross-Shaw, Bradford Council's Executive Member for Regeneration, Planning and Transport, said: "The area between Shipley and Bradford is a key gateway for the district. There is a lot of work planned here that will be happening over the next 10-15 years, particularly the New Bolton Woods urban village, but also the City Connect 2 cycleway and more."
"The highways improvements we are proposing will help reduce the congestion the area currently faces and provide the transport network we need to help create the jobs and homes in the future that people along the Airedale corridor need."
"This is just the start of the process. We are keen to show residents and stakeholders more detail on the proposals and get some early feedback. I'd encourage everyone to have their say now, so we can take them into account as we develop the plans further."

Cllr Kim Groves, Chair of the West Yorkshire Combined Authority Transport Committee said: "Schemes funded through our West Yorkshire-plus Transport Fund programme are designed to increase housing, employment and inclusive economic growth across the City Region by reducing congestion and making public transport more reliable."
