Response to new 'access map' launched by the Rail Delivery Group

Cllr Eric Firth, Deputy Chair of the West Yorkshire Combined Authority Transport Committee, has welcomed the launch of a new 'access map' launched by the Rail Delivery Group.

The access map is available on the National Rail website. The map provides information about accessibility at all stations across Britain.

Cllr Firth said: "It's is great to see the launch of this new interactive access map, which will provide many rail passengers with reassurance when they travel by train. Through successful bids for Access for All funding and investment through the Local Transport Plan and Leeds Public Transport Investment Programme, we are working with our partners to improve accessibility across our local rail network."

"The map also highlights the challenge ahead, beyond the current secured funding in order to make all West Yorkshire stations fully accessible and we will continue to work towards a rail network which is accessible to all."

Access for All programme

Recent joint bids by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority with train operator Northern to the Access for All programme will result in improvements at Menston and Todmorden, as well as plans being progressed at Garforth station.

Bingley, Headingley, Hebden Bridge, Huddersfield, Shipley and Wakefield Westgate stations have already benefited from the programme, which was launched in 2006. The programme is designed to provide disabled rail passengers with better access at stations as well as benefiting people with health conditions, older people with mobility impairments and people travelling with children, heavy luggage or shopping.
