Response to ORR 'rail passenger delay compensation claims'

10 January 2019

Responding to today's official statistics from the Office of Rail and Road into rail passenger delay compensation claims, Cllr Judith Blake, who leads on transport for the West Yorkshire Combined Authority and is Leader of Leeds City Council, said:

"Rail passengers deserve proper compensation for the disruption delays cause to their lives and businesses. Given the disruption to services in recent months it is no surprise passenger claims have risen sharply but it is deeply disappointing that for so many people cancellations and delays have been compounded by a protracted compensation process."

"We need to create a rail system which puts passengers first and that is what my review with the Rail Minister will address."

Cllr Blake is leading a review into the introduction of the May 2018 timetable with Rail Minister Andrew Jones.
