Three-hundred & seventy-five new parking spaces now available at Elland Road Park & Ride

Park and Ride in Leeds took a further step forward when the Elland Road car park extension opened on Monday 10 October.

An additional 375 extra spaces are available in the extension, which will be fully-lit, and overall there will be more spaces for electrical vehicle charging.

With the initial 425-space car park being filled to capacity on a daily basis, West Yorkshire Combined Authority and Leeds City Council began work on the new car park in June. A temporary extension was also opened. The scheme also includes a new, heated waiting facility with toilets, baby-changing facilities, ticket machines and real-time information, which will open in early 2017.

Councillor Richard Lewis, Leeds City Council�s executive member for regeneration, transport and planning, said:

�We have shown that by delivering the right scheme in the right location we can persuade people of the benefits of leaving their cars outside of the city centre. The feedback we have received from users has been hugely positive and shows what can be achieved through these schemes.

�Elland Road Park and Ride is already contributing to better traffic flows and air quality in Leeds city centre and we are now developing the �9m, 1,000-space facility at Temple Green in east Leeds which will open next year.�

Cllr Keith Wakefield, West Yorkshire Combined Authority Transport Committee Chair said:

�With the success of Elland Road Park and Ride, which saw the numbers of cars using it regularly grow from 200 to 2,000 in the first year, it became evident that we needed to extend the facilities to meet customer demand.

�By introducing the Park and Ride at Elland Road, we have removed thousands of car journeys and made significant contribution to reducing costly congestion.

�Those people using the service are saving themselves time and money and from early 2017 will also be able to enjoy the improved facilities we are constructing.�

Elland Road Park and Ride opened in June 2014. It is open Monday to Saturday (except on Saturday Match Days) from 7am to 9.15pm with buses running every 10 minutes until 7pm. Tickets for the 10-minute journey to and from the city centre cost from just �2.70 per day. Customers can make multiple journeys on each Adult Day Ticket and can take up to three children up to the age of 16 with them, for free.
