Updated West Yorkshire Journey Planner now has dedicated cyclist options

11 January 2018
People in West Yorkshire can now use the Journey Planner on the www.wymetro.com Metro travel information website (opens in new tab) to plan journeys by bike.

By pressing the blue cycle tab at the top right above the map, cyclists can now get a journey plan for their trip. The time the journey should take is displayed along with the route is broken down into stages and displayed on the map.

Cyclists also have the option of what type of ride they want. By hitting the yellow options button they can choose the the Fastest, Quietest or Balanced option. As the names suggest, Fastest journeys are set out according to speeds for each part of the route, taking into account speed penalties such as traffic lights. Quietest journeys keep riders away from busy traffic and Balanced journeys provide a combination of Fastest and Quietest.

Ben Still, Managing Director of West Yorkshire Combined Authority, who this week pledged to cycle to work at least twice a week for National Clean Air Day said: "This new element of the Journey Planner is great news for cyclists.

"By providing the three journey options is ideal for both experienced cyclist and those who may have just rediscovered their bike during National Cycling Week and now want to venture a little further afield.

"By providing these kind of improvements plus developing some of the country's best cycling and walking infrastructure, the Combined Authority is making active travel an everyday option for more and more people."
