West Yorkshire Combined Authority shortlisted for bid to support ultra-low emission vehicle (ULEV) use.

West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA) is one of twelve UK authorities in the running for a share of a �35m fund to become an international beacon of ultra-low emission vehicle (ULEV) use.

Funding will be awarded to organisations that demonstrate the greatest potential to become outstanding examples for the adoption of ultra-low emission vehicles (ULEVs) in a local area.

WYCA�s proposals include improving access to our electric charging points, expanding the new West Yorkshire and York Car Club fleet, free city centre parking for ULEV cars and an apprenticeship programme in partnership with manufacturers and local colleges.

WYCA Transport Committee Chair Cllr Peter Box said:

�The use of smart, low carbon, non-polluting technologies is an important part of our plans for transforming our region�s economy and in line with the ambitions of our emerging Single Transport Plan and the City Region�s Strategic Economic Plan.

�I am pleased that WYCA has the potential to access this funding and am confident we will be entering a strong submission that would make West Yorkshire and particularly the urban centres of Bradford, Halifax, Huddersfield, Leeds and Wakefield a Go Ultra Low exemplar.

�Making ultra-low emission vehicles a practical and viable choice for more people will help to reduce carbon emissions, improve local air quality and transform people�s quality of life and is an important step towards our long term vision for a clean, efficient integrated transport system.�

Communication and Engagement

The project would be supported by an extensive programme of Communication and Engagement targeted at multi-car households and businesses located in areas of poorer air quality.

As a shortlisted Authority we will now fully develop our proposals over the summer and 2-4 successful bidders will be announced in the autumn.
