Sunday Park & Ride services at Elland Road

Leeds’ 800-space Elland Road Park and Ride will be open on three Sundays in the run up to Christmas, thanks to support from Leeds BID.

Buses will run every 10 minutes between the Park and Ride and Leeds city centre on Sundays 4, 11 and 18 December. Tickets will cost £3 and all MCards and ENCTS passes will be valid on the services. The first service will depart Elland Road at 10:30 and the last departure will be from from stop T9 on Boar Lane at 17:30.

Leeds BID (Business Improvement District) is a five-year project launched in April 2015, which includes over 950 businesses in the LS1 and LS2 postcodes. Its aims are to raise standards, awareness and provide a warm welcoming city through its members working in partnership and speaking with one voice.

Cllr Keith Wakefield, West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s Transport Chair said:
“The numbers of commuters using Elland Road Park and Ride have been so high that we have had to extend the car park and plan to open a new heated passenger waiting area with toilets, baby-changing and real-time information in the coming weeks.

“I’m sure in that in run up to Christmas, shoppers will welcome the chance to take advantage of the park and ride services, which have proved so popular, we are developing a new 1,000-space facility at Temple Green in East Leeds and are looking at proposals for more sites to ease congestion in the city.

Andrew Cooper Leeds BID Chief Executive said: "Christmas is a critical trading period and as a direct response to the retail, leisure and professional sectors to be more competitive as a destination, we are delighted to fund, support and enable these extra Sunday services."

Leeds City Council executive member for regeneration, transport and planning Councillor Richard Lewis said: “We are pleased to be extending the park and ride service at Elland Road on Sundays in the run-up to Christmas. The city centre will be very busy with shoppers throughout the month, so the park the ride service offers a great way of making Christmas shopping a little less stressful.”

Paul Turner, Head of Commercial at First West Yorkshire, said:
“Following the recent news that saw Elland Road Park & Ride recognised at the UK Bus Awards it’s fantastic to share that we will be introducing additional services, in the run up to Christmas. The scheme is certainly going from strength to strength, and we will proudly continue to work in partnership with the Combined Authority and Leeds City Council to offer great value bus services for our customers.”

The usual Elland Road Park and Ride service runs every 10 minutes, Monday to Saturday, with journeys to and from the city centre taking just 10 minutes. Tickets cost just £3 per day and there is a 10% discount when customers buy five or more tickets. Smartcards are available at the on-site kiosk, and there is no time limit on tickets.
