About the Youth Commission

The West Yorkshire Youth Commission is a peer-led project that enables young people to get involved and have their say about urgent issues that affect their lives and help build a safer community.

The West Yorkshire Violence Reduction Partnership (VRP) has partnered with Leaders Unlocked to help shape approaches to youth-led initiatives particularly in response to violent crime & exploitation.

The group currently has nineteen members and has set out its ‘Priority Aims’ for 2023, which include:

  • Rehabilitation and Prevention
  • Community Relationships and Life
  • Attitudes and Violence Towards Women
  • Gangs, Drugs and Knife Crime

This report is grounded in extensive peer-to-peer research and engagement with over 1300 young people across West Yorkshire between May 2023 and October 2023.
