Huddersfield George Hotel Refurbishment
Remedial works will be completed to a Grade 2* listed building, the George Hotel in Huddersfield town centre. Following refurbishment, the building will be suitable for a range of uses, such as a hotel, offices and museum.
Project Scope
This scheme has supported the acquisition of the George Hotel building in Huddersfield and essential remedial works to make it safe, watertight, and ready for development. The building will then be full refurbished to bring it back into use. The Council are currently developing options for re-instating an improved hotel.
Kirklees Council have adopted a ten-year masterplan for the redevelopment of Huddersfield Town Centre, and the George Hotel renovation will play an important part in this in a prominent location adjacent to the Rail Station.
Outputs
This scheme is expected to achieve the following outputs:
- Create 4,375m² of commercial floorspace
- Create 99 construction jobs
- Develop the upper floors to create hotel/office space that will create 134 jobs by December 2024.
