Leeds Liverpool Canal
A high-quality cycling and walking route will be created on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, enhancing the CityConnect schemes that use the canal towpaths as a traffic free, flat, and attractive alternative to the main roads.
Project Scope
The new upgraded towpath will increase widths available for the people to provide a cycling and walking route along the towpath between Apperley Bridge and Shipley on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, as well as providing a durable all-weather surface that is in keeping with the nature and historic value of the canal environment. The overall aim of the project is to encourage people to walk and cycle more often and contribute to the Canal and River Trust’s Waterways and Wellbeing Strategy. By improving the towpath, the Trust will be improving the condition and increasing the resilience of its infrastructure and creating a valued and safe place for everyone to enjoy.
