A58 Corridor Improvements

This project aims to implement bus priority measures on a busy city centre route in Leeds.

Funded through the Leeds Public Transport Investment Programme, this project will deliver a number of improvements to the A58 in Leeds City Centre. This includes new bus lanes, bus signal prioritisation, segregated cycle tracks, bus signal prioritisation, widened footways, and extended bus stops and waiting areas.

The works within this project are progressing independently, with works completed at York Street and St Peters Street. Business case development work is being completed for works on A58 Beckett Street, currently this will remain as a development only project.

This project converted York Street in Leeds City Centre to being bus only westbound, between St Cecilia Street and Duke Street. The improvements will reduce congestion on this short section, with a high impact due to its use by a high number of buses. The benefits of the project will be felt by bus users, and those walking and cycling along the corridor, by improving bus journey reliability and encouraging modal shift.
