Transforming Travel Centres

The Transforming Travel Centres project funded by the LTP IP3 programme and involvs the refurbishment of Bradford Interchange and Huddersfield Bus Station Travel Centres. This is part of a wider programme of improvements to bus stations.

The West Yorkshire Combined Authority is in the process of refurbishing the services it provides. This includes the refurbishment of Travel Centres in West Yorkshire. Public consultation for Bradford Interchange, Huddersfield Bus Station and Pontefract Bus Station have taken place and the survey results can be found here. Pontefract Bus Station has since been descoped from the project due to viability.

The refurbishment of the Travel Centre will include remodelling so that staffed customer service desks can be closed independently of the travel centre, self-service touch screen information points will be accessible throughout the bus station, increased energy efficiency and a focus away from paper based pamphlets, brochures and timetables.

The design aims to improve access, reduce wait times, move towards a more modern look and feel, reduce the carbon footprint and improve the working conditions for bus station staff.

The project has recently gained Strategic Outline Case approval at the West Yorkshire Investment Committee.

The refurbishment works at both Huddersfield and Bradford Interchange Bus Station’s is due to be completed by August 2023.
