We are looking to appoint a Highways Liaison Assistant.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the right candidate who wants to join a dynamic team leading on the delivery of solutions to planned and unplanned events on the highway.

The role is based in West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s offices in Leeds (and from remote locations due to new planned flexible working arrangements) and will include regular travel to other districts to attend site visits and highways meetings.

It is an exciting time to be joining the Combined Authority, following the announcement of a £1.8bn devolution deal that has been secured for West Yorkshire. Devolution will enable us to drive up living standards for local communities while tackling the climate emergency and help deliver our commitment to become a net zero carbon city region by 2038.

The Role

Reporting into the Highways Network Manager, the key responsibilities are but not limited to:

  • Providing assistance to the Highways Network Manager through site visits and attendance at meetings to plan for and facilitate a public transport response to road closures and special events.
  • Responding to correspondence relating to bus stop infrastructure changes on the highway and working with colleagues in local authorities to plan bus stop and bus shelter relocations for planned highways schemes.
  • Liaison with bus operators, local highways authorities, event organisers and internal partners to mitigate emergency road closures, including providing up to date disruption information for wider circulation.
  • Representing the interests of West Yorkshire Combined Authority at specific highways meetings and special event planning meetings.
