West Yorkshire Combined Authority are seeking to appoint a Technical Services Manager to join our ICT Services section.
It is an exciting time to be joining the Combined Authority, following the announcement that a £1.8bn devolution deal has been secured for West Yorkshire. Devolution will enable us to drive up living standards for local communities while tackling the climate emergency and help deliver our commitment to become a net zero carbon city region by 2038.
At the West Yorkshire Combined Authority we bring together local councils and businesses through the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership (LEP), that ensures that our work meets the needs of employers and residents so that everyone in our region can benefit from economic prosperity supported by a modern, accessible transport network, housing and digital connections.
Reporting to the Head of ICT Services you will provide leadership of the organisations’ ICT infrastructure and service management teams.
Technology within the Combined Authority has never been more business critical and following a successful digital transformation programme, the organisation’s approach to ICT is now more modern, dynamic and forward thinking. We have plans to continue this exciting change so that we become a truly Digital First organisation by the use of flexible, innovative solutions which will benefit our partners and staff.
This leadership role is important for not only the delivery of future ICT changes, but for the essential day to day services that this post is responsible for.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Ensuring that the quality of the ICT Infrastructure is appropriate, resilient and secure for the needs of the business.
- Oversee the infrastructure and support teams ensuring that a first class service is provided to users.
- Management of both in-house and external resources, and the prioritisation of their work.
Review the Role profile provided for more information about the responsibilities.
You will have the following key skills, attributes, education and experience:
- Hold a degree in an ICT related discipline or relevant demonstrable practical experience.
- Comprehensive experience of supporting and deploying a broad range of ICT infrastructures, including networks, virtualisation, servers, storage, remote access systems and telephone systems.
- Proven vendor management experience
This role will appeal to you if you are excited by managing technology teams and are equally enthused by both delivering great services today and wish to play a key role in the implementation of new solutions tomorrow. You won’t be phased by very technical discussions around networking and cloud services and you’ll be keen to carefully manage such details.
We’re looking for someone with solid experience and understanding of ICT infrastructure, experience which allows them to lead and inspire others. Importantly, your skills and knowledge will allow you to step in and undertake technical activities if required. You’ll understand how to manage technical risks and how to provide great technical support services. Your management skills will know how organisations should avoid dependencies on individuals and single parts of an ICT infrastructure.
Providing a first-class customer service is key and here you’ll lead by example. You will equally be comfortable with highly technical infrastructure work as you will with working people from all backgrounds and seniorities. Importantly, your gravitas and people skills will allow you to communicate technology matters to a wide range of stakeholders in a tailored way that brings others on side.
Alongside a competitive salary, we offer an excellent benefits package including:
- 28 Days Holiday plus bank holidays
- Free Travel on rail and buses with the M-Card zones 1-5
- Generous Employer-Contribution Pension Scheme
- Flexible Working Practises with Health & Wellbeing initiatives to ensure you achieve the best work/life balance and career goals.
