Why inclusive employment matters

Healthy Working Life is helping West Yorkshire businesses to confidently support employees with physical and mental health conditions.

Having a diverse workforce where everyone can work to the best of their ability, makes good business sense. It increases productivity, supports loyalty and retention and makes your business attractive to future talent.

Inclusive business practices can mean 19% higher revenue with a 37% higher chance of outperforming competitors.

Even if you're a small business with no HR support, you can easily be an inclusive employer. By joining the Fair Work Charter, accessing the Disability Confident Employer Scheme and using the Inclusive Employment Toolkit, you can offer fair and supportive work, helping both your employees and your business to thrive.

Inclusive Employment Toolkit

Access step-by-step guidance, resources, videos, a podcast series and even legal advice, all at no cost to your business. Each of the five modules have been developed with support and advice from West Yorkshire business leaders and experts.

Click through to each module to learn more about how you can support your employees with health conditions.

Disability Confident Employer Scheme

The Disability Confident Employer Scheme is a government scheme designed to encourage employers to recruit and retain disabled people and those with health conditions.

100,000 people in West Yorkshire are not in work or looking for work because of health reasons. Research shows us that many of these people would like to be in work, but have fallen out of work because their needs were not supported.

By becoming a Disability Confident Employer you are demonstrating your commitment to welcoming people with disabilities in to your workforce, giving you a much wider talent pool to recruit from.
