Founded in 1837, Abraham Moon is one of last vertical woollen mills in Great Britain. Their high-quality fabrics are used in clothing, furnishings and accessories.
Producing woollen fabrics uses a lot of energy. As fuel costs rise and climate concerns grow, the business sought ways to cut energy use.
Abraham Moon contacted the Combined Authority through Leeds City Council. A meeting with a Resource Efficiency Manager and a free audit helped them to identify areas with high energy use and potential cost and carbon savings.
The firm received a £13,000 grant to install Variable Speed Drive (VSD) motors on their wool spinning frames. This is expected to save them 86,976 kWh of electricity each year, cutting their energy bills by over £10,000.
