Private sector support places Leeds City Region on the international stage

8 January 2019

Momentum is building for Leeds City Regions presence at the worlds largest property investment forum, MIPIM taking place from 12-15 March 2019.

Global professional services firm Deloitte are sponsoring the Leeds City Region delegation for the first time, joining a growing number of private sector supporters including Munroe K, Town Centre Securities, Park Lane Group, Scarborough Group, University of Leeds, Bruntwood, Extra MSA, MEPC, CEG, Arup and Shulmans.

The delegation which includes senior representatives from both the public and private sector and is being led by Roger Marsh OBE, Chair of Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership, will emphasise that the region is open for business and ready to talk to international occupiers, developers and investors.

Landmark year

The last 12 months have been a landmark year for the region, with Channel 4 confirming that the region will be the home of its new National HQ. The region is already delivering returns for the businesses that have invested here, including global law firm Reed Smith which opened its office here earlier this year. A recent EY Attractiveness Survey recognised Leeds City Region to be a leading destination for foreign direct investment and Leeds city centre office take up surpassed one million per sq ft (Deloitte Crane Survey 2018).

The programme during the international conference will be focused on profile raising activities, sharing the confidence and ambition of the Leeds City Region underlined by the scale of opportunities available within the UK's largest city region economy outside of London.

Showcase

Roger Marsh, OBE Chair of the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership said: "I am delighted that the private sector support which allows us to showcase Leeds City Region at MIPIM - arguably one of the most important international economic development conferences continues to grow."

"This year we will be using MIPIM as a springboard to invite the world to discover that Leeds City Region is best for business, best for lifestyle and also undoubtedly for talent."

"We will use this global stage to build on the success of the C4 announcement, a game changer for the region which brings with it a once-in-a-generation chance to unlock opportunities for our talented young people and draw international attention to our region."

Testament to opportunities

David Aspin, owner of Munroe K said: "Being part of and supporting Leeds City Region at MIPIM 2019 is an invaluable opportunity for Munroe K to showcase what we know the region can offer."

"I attended the very first MIPIM 30 years ago and so am delighted to be a headline sponsor for MIPIM 2019 as the event celebrates its 30th anniversary year. The fact that we return year on year is testament to the opportunities that MIPIM unlocks for the private and public sector and the platform it gives Leeds City Region on the global stage."

"Munroe K is excited to be taking our latest development, the new 72-acre International Centre of New Tech (ICON) to MIPIM in 2019 - an iconic digital space where life and work come together seamlessly. This development also includes the proposed White Rose rail station, supported by Leeds City Council, the West Yorkshire Combined Authority and Network Rail which could help attract new investment and business to the area."

Leeds City Region has also confirmed its delegation will, once again, benefit from a direct flight to MIPIM 2019 from Leeds Bradford Airport with Jet2.com. To find out about MIPIM 2019 sponsorship opportunities and how to get involved please contact Suzanne.Flannery@westyorks-ca.gov.uk
