Castleford Growth Corridor Scheme

The Aire River Growth Corridor is within Castleford and has been designated as a 'Housing Zone'. Improvements to the transport infrastructure are needed to accommodate additional new homes planned for the area, and employment growth expected in the town.

The Castleford Growth Corridor Scheme will provide this by reducing congestion and improving accessibility.

This scheme aims to construct a new link road and footbridge across the River Aire from Lock Lane to Wheldon Road, improving the highway and reducing congestion. Flood mitigation measures will also be installed and pedestrian crossing facilities will be improved. A cycle lane will also be added to improve accessibility for cycle users along Aire Street and Wheldon Road.

This scheme will also provide a new public realm along the waterfront.
