Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime Nominee's statement on the sentencing of a man for the murder of PC Sharon Beshenivsky

Piran Ditta Khan was today (10 May) sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 40 years for the murder of PC Sharon Beshenivsky. He was also sentenced for two counts of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, two counts of possession of a prohibited weapon, and robbery.

West Yorkshire Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime Nominee, Alison Lowe said:

“I welcome today’s sentence and that all those responsible for the shocking murder of PC Sharon Beshenivsky have been brought to justice.

“West Yorkshire Police and the many other organisations involved should be commended for their unwavering commitment in ensuring Khan faced the consequences of his actions.

“I hope this brings some comfort to Sharon’s family, friends and colleagues - her sacrifice will never be forgotten.”
