Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

Equity, diversity, and inclusion is at the heart of everything we do at the Combined Authority.

Equity, diversity, and inclusion is at the heart of everything we do at the Combined Authority

As a public body we have legal responsibilities to ensure that our services consider the nature of equity, diversity, and inclusion, guided by the Equality Act 2010 and Public Sector Equality Duty.

We know how important it is to reflect the diverse communities we serve. It is an important part of our work when consulting and engaging with communities in West Yorkshire. We want to make sure our projects reflect the views of everyone working, living, and travelling through and around West Yorkshire.

What is equity, diversity, and inclusion?

Equity, diversity, and inclusion is the fair treatment for all. It is challenging and addressing behaviours and barriers that some people experience. It is making sure everyone has equitable access to the same opportunities and resources.

How we embrace equity, diversity, and inclusion?

We will use existing data and knowledge of our communities to find the best ways to consult with seldom heard groups and those most impacted by our proposals.

What we mean by seldom heard groups are groups who are sometimes under-represented.

We will make the most of existing groups and networks, this includes equality, diversity, and inclusion groups

We will work with our equity, diversity, and inclusion internal advisory groups to hear and share best practice in order to strengthen the quality and inclusive nature of our consultations.

About you questions

We ask questions about you at the end of every survey. These questions are completely optional for you to answer.

They will be used to understand who is having their say about our projects and who is not. It will help us to identify if we are failing to reach key groups in that area and will help us to adapt our engagement styles to reach more people.

You can find out more about why we ask about you here - About You questions.
