York Outer Ring Road Roundabout Improvements

Package of infrastructure investments on the A1237 York Outer Ring Road between its junctions with Wetherby Road and Monks Cross Road

The YORR scheme has been the subject of a comprehensive and long term strategy to review and develop junction improvements at identified roundabouts along the A1237 York Outer Ring Road with the aim to improve strategic and local journey times on this heavily congested route. Each roundabout junction has its own challenges.

  1. Wetherby Road
  2. Monks Cross
  3. Haxby Road
  4. Strensall Road
  5. Wigginton Road
  6. Clifton Moor
  7. Great North Way

1) Wetherby Road was completed in early 2019 and 7) Great North Way will be progressed as a separate phase.

2) to 6) are being progressed alongside an upgrade of the Outer Ring Road to create a dual carriageway between the A19 and A64 Little Hopgrove utilising funding provided by the Department for Transport as part of the Major Road Network programme.
