Latest Bradford Interchange update (March 27)

Our latest update on the closure of Bradford Interchange bus station.

27 March 2024

Travel centre update

In partnership with Northern Rail, we are now able to offer a full travel centre service, accepting both cash and card payments, for MCard ticket, pass and bus information. This is in addition to the ticket machine which enables customers to load products on to their MCard.

Further closure information

Bradford Interchange bus station will remain closed for a further three months as more detailed surveys are undertaken to determine the viability of its future.

Initial survey work was undertaken in January and February after the bus station was closed after some concrete fell in the basement, however further, more extensive surveys are now required.

The Combined Authority has put public safety at the heart of its decision making and is working with Bradford Council to minimise disruption to the travelling public and wider city centre.

Temporary arrangements

Over 100 signs are in place around the city to help passengers find where they need to go.

Bus shelters are in place on Nelson Street and Bridge Street.

Extra provisions made for passengers

Metro branding has also been installed the area to increase awareness of the service on offer to customers.

Our Safer Travel PCSOs have been deployed to bus shelters and bus stops in the city and are being supported by Bradford’s Neighbourhood Policing Team and other routine police patrols.

Bus station travel centre staff are working from the rail ticket office to assist customers with bus passes and to provide information.

Efforts to minimise city centre impact

The rail station is open as normal, with access via the ramp footpath on Bridge Street. Rail services are not affected by the closure.

We are working with Bradford Council and Network Rail to minimise disruption to transformation work that is happening in the city centre.

We continue to work closely with bus operators to minimise disruption for passengers.
