West Yorkshire Mayor secures multimillion-pound investment on India trade mission

West Yorkshire Mayor Tracy Brabin has returned from a trade mission to India having secured multimillion-pound investment for the region.

West Yorkshire mayor Tracy Brabin has returned from a trade mission to India having secured multimillion-pound investment for the region, it can be announced today (September 30th).

The Bangalore-headquartered global technology and business process outsourcing company, Mphasis, has announced the creation of 1,000 new jobs in West Yorkshire. The investment, which will be worth tens of millions of pounds to the West Yorkshire economy, will boost Mphasis’ existing presence where it has a workforce of 500 based in Leeds. It is expected to be completed over the next two years. This builds on the company’s creation of a UK centre of excellence in Leeds for its insurance clients in 2021.

Embarking on the first post-pandemic Metro Mayor trade mission to India, Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire, visited Mphasis’ global headquarters in Bangalore and met with senior representatives to discuss the project and partnership opportunities.

Mphasis has opened applications for new jobs across a range of digital skillsets including:

• Technology and Engineering Services including Data, AI, Cloud, Cyber, Application Development, and Front facing technologies
• Back and Mid Office Services for its clients in Financial Services, Insurance, Payments, Logistics, and Transportation
• Experience, Design services, and Studio

Mphasis is committed to driving diversity and inclusion in the tech community and works closely with schools and colleges to inspire the next generation of talent. The business is also keen to strengthen links with local universities to attract, develop, and retain staff, as well as exploring opportunities to create innovation and entrepreneurship partnerships.

Mphasis and The West Yorkshire Combined Authority have formed a strong partnership and it will continue by connecting the company with educators and the broader tech ecosystem across the region.
During the visit, the Mayor met with Deepa Nagraj, Senior Vice President and Head of Sparkle Innovation Ecosystem, a programme created by Mphasis to support and scale innovative start-ups which solve real-world industry challenges. The programme is keen to work with partners in West Yorkshire to co-innovate and co-create transformative solutions at speed and scale.

India is the second largest source of foreign direct investment into the UK after the US, with trade in goods between West Yorkshire and India estimated to be worth over £360 million. West Yorkshire is committed to developing stronger links with key international markets like India to drive forward global trade and investment links, and this significant investment by Mphasis is a further example of our strong friendship with India.
