What is the Bradford City Village (Darley Street Market) project?

This is one of the flagship projects within the Getting Building Fund.

It aims to transform Bradford city centre by replacing the outdated Oastler Market with a brand-new, energy-efficient, low-carbon market building. This new 4,000 m² indoor market will include:

  • Three floors for fresh produce, hot food, and household goods
  • Space for community and cultural events
  • Public realm and green space improvements

The project will also unlock land for future development and contribute to Bradford Council’s 10-year regeneration vision for the city centre.

What was achieved?

The expected outcomes of this project were to:

  • Create 400 (gross) jobs
  • Create 157 construction jobs
  • Release land for future development
  • Create 4000 m² of mixed-use commercial floor
  • Create 100 m² learning space
  • Assist 100 learners to achieve a full qualification
  • Create 1000 m² of improved or created public realm / green space
  • Safeguard 300 jobs

This project is helping to reshape Bradford as a vibrant, modern and inclusive city centre that supports business, community life, and sustainability.

This project was completed on 10 July 2025.
