Climate action in West Yorkshire

A cleaner, greener, healthier West Yorkshire for all. That's the goal of West Yorkshire Combined Authority when it comes to our climate. We’re also committed to making our region net zero carbon by 2038. Read on to discover more about how we're tackling the climate and environmental emergency in our region.

West Yorkshire Combined Authority is working to tackle the climate emergency across our five districts. We are reducing carbon emissions, investing in clean energy and green infrastructure, and supporting communities to adapt to a changing climate - with a target of reaching net zero by 2038.

Our climate affects all of us. Rapidly changing weather is having a particular impact on our most vulnerable communities - from heatwaves to destructive flooding. West Yorkshire Combined Authority has set a target, developed with the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research, of reaching net zero carbon by 2038. Since 2005, the region has already cut emissions by 42% - but an 81% reduction from the baseline is needed by 2038, meaning significant further action is required across transport, buildings, energy and land use.
