West Yorkshire has nearly 1 million young people. It's vital they have a say in policing to help make the area Safe, Just, and Inclusive.
The Mayor of West Yorkshire, Tracy Brabin, is responsible for the Police and Crime Commissioner function in the region. She works closely with her Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime (DMPC), Alison Lowe OBE, who drives the work through delegated responsibility. Together, they partner with West Yorkshire Police to push for change and hold the Chief Constable accountable.
The Youth Advisory Group (YAG) falls under the Mayor’s Policing and Crime duty. Young people aged 13-21 are invited to share their views and experiences. This helps the Mayor and DMPC carry out their functions and guide future decisions and policies.
Young people helped shape the Mayor’s Police and Crime Plan by sharing what matters most to them in West Yorkshire.
If you want to join the YAG, the application process is simple.
You must be aged between 13 and 21 and live, work, or study in West Yorkshire.
Please return an expression of interest form and a consent form, both found below. Tell us why you want to join, what policing, crime, and community safety issues matter to you, and why you want to represent other young people. Once completed, email or post your form to Policing and Crime Team, West Yorkshire Combined Authority, Wellington House, 40-50 Wellington Street, Leeds, LS1 2DE.
If you have questions or want to discuss the role, email, call or write to us at the address above.
Sometimes topics during meetings may upset you. If so, feel free to leave or take a break at any time.
For additional help or information, talk to a team member. We're here to assist you.
Applicants must also complete and return a photo/video consent form. Note that there are different forms for those under 18 and those aged 18 and over.
