Governance

West Yorkshire Combined Authority holds itself to the highest standards of governance.

Openness and transparency are the foundations for every decision we make, every policy we implement and every service we deliver.

Read on to learn more about governance and transparency at the heart of your local government.

Our work is led by the Combined Authority. This comprises the Mayor (as chair) and democratically elected councillors from our West Yorkshire local authorities - Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds and Wakefield, plus York.

To make sure we deliver services and investment region-wide, the West Yorkshire Business Board brings business and local authority leaders together as one.

The trust you place in us is crucial to the smooth running of the Combined Authority, and this all comes down to transparency.

To ensure we are open and fair, all our decisions take place in public meetings. These meetings are streamed online for the public to watch live or watch recordings afterwards.

For further transparency, each meeting can be viewed online via our webcasting service. You can also access the reports and minutes from all meetings.

Scrutiny

Checks and balances are really important for the transparency and overall democratic structure of the Combined Authority and local government bodies in general.

Holding local political leaders and decision makers to account is overseen by the Scrutiny Committee – a function made up of 16 cross-party backbench councillors from West Yorkshire and York.

You can access more information on the scrutiny of the Combined Authority below. You can also view other key information, including annual reports, statements and ways to get involved in scrutiny yourself.
