We are investing £17 million to make walking, wheeling and cycling safer and easier for everyone across the region. We work with councils in Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds and Wakefield to improve routes and develop Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans (LCWIPs), helping more people choose active travel for everyday journeys.
Our aim is to create safer, more accessible spaces for walking, wheeling and cycling as part of the Weaver Network. This includes upgrading footpaths, cycle lanes and canal towpaths through our Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans. We want to focus on strengthening the network where it's most needed. That's why we partner with local organisations and community groups to guide our investments.
It's not just about infrastructure. We also support adult cycle training and community-led projects. These initiatives make walking, wheeling and cycling safer, more affordable and accessible for everyone. West Yorkshire businesses play a key role in this effort. Through our walking, wheeling and cycling support for business grants, we help employers offer healthy, sustainable and practical travel options for their teams.
