What is the Bradford Interchange Station gateway project?

The Bradford Interchange Station gateway project delivered a modernised, high-quality building designed to improve functionality, visibility and safety for passengers. As a key regional interchange, the redevelopment will make the station more accessible and attractive, while supporting Bradford’s ambitions to create a more connected city centre.

The objectives of this project were:

  • Deliver a high-quality, modern railway station for Bradford.
  • Improve the passenger experience with new facilities.
  • Enhance station accessibility through modern lift installations.
  • Strengthen the city’s image with a welcoming gateway for visitors.
  • Support increased rail usage through better infrastructure.

These upgrades will help the Interchange become a true multimodal hub that supports a shift toward public transport.

This project was led by Bradford Council. Work began in September 2023 and was completed in November 2024.

How was this project funded?

£5.65 million from the West Yorkshire plus Transport Fund and £13.5 million from the Transforming Cities Fund (TCF) scheme.
