Dewsbury bus station

A £23 million transformation of Dewsbury bus station is underway.

Delivery

What is the Dewsbury bus station project?

Work is underway on our £23 million transformation of Dewsbury Bus Station in partnership with Kirklees Council.

Transforming Dewsbury Bus Station is part of our commitment to deliver the Weaver Network - a better, more seamless transport system that connects people with opportunities and supports a thriving West Yorkshire.

During this main phase of construction, the bus station building is closed. The bus station remains fully operational with stands and temporary toilet facilities outside the building. Visit our Metro website for the latest travel information.

The full building renovation will ensure Dewsbury is an accessible, modern bus station, with better real-time information displays to help with onward journeys, and improved safety and security features.

As part of this transformation, improvements include:

  • A “living roof” covered in plants
  • Cycle parking
  • Energy saving improvements, such as solar panels
  • A  “Changing Places” toilet with extra features to cater for people with a range of disabilities, including more space and equipment such as a hoist and height-adjustable changing bench

The bus station is expected to open in 2027.

How is this project funded?

These improvements are being delivered by the Combined Authority in partnership with Kirklees Council with funding from the UK Government.
