The Jackson Quarry development in Knottingley, Wakefield will bring 175 new homes and two retail units to the site of a former quarry.
The location is well-connected, with easy access to rail and bus links serving Leeds, Wakefield and nearby areas, making sustainable travel a real option for future residents.
The new homes are being designed with the environment in mind. Each property will be set up for electric vehicle charging and solar PV panels will help reduce energy use.
As part of the project, an ecology area will be created on-site. This will include a walkway and four ponds designed to support great crested newts, helping to protect and improve local biodiversity.
West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s Regeneration team are leading the project with Wakefield Council as delivery partners.
Work began in August 2023 and is expected to be completed by December 2027.
The project received £1.9 million in funding from the West Yorkshire Combined Authority.
The Brownfield Housing Fund is a major regional regeneration initiative led by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, with £89 million in funding from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities.
