Kirkstall Forge

Kirkstall Forge is one of Leeds’ most ambitious regeneration projects. Backed by a £5 million Growing Places Fund loan, this landmark brownfield redevelopment is delivering a new railway station, high-quality homes, office space and jobs in a sustainable, well-connected location.

Delivery

What is the Kirkstall Forge project?

The Kirkstall Forge redevelopment is transforming a historic brownfield site in Leeds into a vibrant, mixed-use community. The project includes new infrastructure and major housing and commercial developments.

At the heart of the regeneration is the Kirkstall Forge railway station, which opened to the public in 2016 to improve sustainable travel and regional connectivity. A new junction onto the A65 has also been constructed to support better access to the site.

The long-term vision for the site includes:

  • 1,000 new homes
  • Grade A office space
  • Retail and leisure facilities

The first office building opened in December 2017, with over 700 people already employed at the site. Once fully built, the project is expected to support up to 2,400 jobs, making it a key economic driver for the Leeds district.

Commercial Estates are leading the project with Leeds City Council and Department of Transport as delivery partners.

Work began in 2014 and is expected to complete by 2028.

How is this project funded?

The project received a £5 million loan from the Growing Places Fund.
