This scheme made key improvements to the streets around the Corn Exchange in Leeds to support safer and better travel by bus, bike and on foot. It includes changes to roads like Vicar Lane, New Market Street, Kirkgate, New York Street, Harper Street, York Street, Cross York Street, Duncan Street, Call Lane, Boar Lane, Lower Briggate, Bridge End and Meadow Lane.
As part of the project, Meadow Lane was upgraded to support Leeds City Council’s ambition to create a new City Park. A protected two-way cycle lane was added between Bridge End and Great Wilson Street, along with a new pedestrian and cycle crossing (toucan crossing) near the future park site.
These changes aim to make it easier and safer for people to walk and cycle in the area.
Work began in 2018 and was completed in 2022.
How was this scheme funded?
